24”x24” acrylic, glitter, inks and dried flowers on canvas. I painted this portrait of black trans woman to celebrate their life and beauty. I saw a news stastics that majority of transgender people who are killed in US are Black and LatinX transgender woman. I want my portrait to honor to black trans people and raise awareness of the struggles faced by transgender people. I experimented with non traditional ways to paint this portrait that highlight the freedom of self expression. Also to spark conversations about issues of in our multifaceted racism, colorism, and transphobia in LGBTQIA+ community.
